Wine tokens appear identically in both English and international sets, appearing as an irregularly-shaped set of purple grapes.
Gameplay
Wine tokens are generally placed on the board during setup, on designated hills and fields hexes. Any that are not placed on the board are put into the supply.
Whenever any hills or fields hex with wine tokens produces, every player collects 1 resource and 1 wine for each adjacent city. The resource is collected from the supply as normal, but the wine is taken from the wine tokens on the hex.
Wine is always collected from a hex in turn order, starting with the player on move. If there are not enough wine tokens on a hex, some players will collect 1 resource and 1 wine, while the remaining players will collect 2 resources, as normal.
In the event of a resource shortage, a shortage of the resource does not affect the production of wine.
Although rare, it is possible that, due to a resource shortage, it is possible that a player’s only production is wine. If the player has an aqueduct, they may collect one resource for production due to its effect.
Wine tokens are not resources, are not considered part of the hand, and thus are not subject to the hand limit.
Wine tokens may be part of a domestic trade, but may not be part of a maritime trade.
