Comprehensive scenario and variant guide for Catan
Catan: Seafarers Scenario - Legend of the Sea Robbers is an expansion to Seafarers, released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Seafarers. It is the second anniversary-based expansion to Seafarers after Die Kolonien, though this is the first to receive an English localization. As an anniversary expansion, it shares its color coding of blue with that of its parent expansion.
This is the first major expansion to have Benjamin Teuber, the second son of Klaus, to be co-credited as designer; he has been with the development of Catan since the beginning, and had been credited as co-designer along his father in a number of non-_Catan_ games. This is also the first major expansion released since the formation of Catan Studios, the company representing the Catan brand in English, in 2016.
The main gameplay mechanic is a campaign of four scenarios meant to be played in order, one after another, though each scenario may be played standalone. The outcome of each game is recorded as Legend Points, and the player with the most Legend Points after all four scenarios are played is deemed the winner of the campaign.
Alongside the release of the game is a companion text-based adventure game for mobile devices, known as Catan Stories: Legend of the Sea Robbers, that looks at the lore of this expansion in further detail.
A rules addendum was published online with regards to how to incorporate Cities & Knights into this expansion, though it is to be noted that this expansion was not designed with integrating Cities & Knights in mind; all other expansions are explicitly listed as incompatible. (Note that despite this, “The Friendly Robber” from Traders & Barbarians is compatible, and in fact is in effect for all scenarios in this expansion.)
Players with older editions of Seafarers (English 3rd edition or 1st international edition) may not have all needed components to play scenarios from this expansion.
