Catan Scenarios: Helpers, originally titled The Helpers of Catan, was originally introduced in the 2010 issue of Catan-News, the final edition to feature a new scenario or variant. (Catan-News would continue to exist for some time without offering new scenarios or variants, though it would eventually become defunct.)

Although originally presented as a print-and-play scenario, this scenario would be published as a paid product, and localized in English as the first entry in the Catan Scenarios line of scenarios.

The enduring popularity of this mini-expansion has led to similar concepts being included in the core mechanics of other scenarios, as well as a second revision of the scenario released in 2022.
